The clockwork hand makes a reappearance. We first saw it in chapter one in Edgar's office. When Fiona spotted it, she reached out to touch it, then stopped when she realized both Edgar and Mrs. Germaine were staring at her. Edgar initially encouraged her to go ahead and touch and look at it, as it was very "special," but he was cut off by Mrs. Germaine. Now we see the hand again. What could it mean? Is it merely a symbol of time, indicating she needs to wait to use magic?
Edgar also says that no one at the hotel is an expert in magic. He certainly knows magicians. After all, the hotel has "protective hexes" on it, so someone had to cast those.
Also, those cookies look delicious.
